This is a seat-in-coach tour departing every Wednesday and Saturday
with a minimum of 2 passengers
Arrive at Chiang Rai airport by 10:00 AM and depart for the Golden Triangle, a vast geographical region that includes parts of Myanmar, Laos, and Northern Thailand. This region was known to be one of the world’s major sources of opium production, especially during the second half of the 20th century. It is located at the point where the Ruak River converges with the Mekong River, the longest in Southeast Asia at 4,350 Km. Stop at the panoramic viewpoint of the rivers’ meeting point, known as Phrathat Doi Pu Khao. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Opium Museum, which offers a series of testimonies and objects related to the cultivation, trade, and consumption of this substance. Return to Chiang Rai and visit Wat Chiang Yuen, commonly known as the Red Temple, a masterpiece of Thai Buddhist architecture characterized by a unique and fascinating design. The main structure of the temple is entirely painted in deep red, creating a vibrant contrast with the blue sky and surrounding vegetation. The use of red is symbolic in Thai Buddhism, representing fire and sacrifice. The last stop is at Wat Rong Seua Ten, better known as the Blue Temple or Dancing Tiger Temple, whose walls, roof, and surrounding statues are all covered in this splendid shade of sapphire blue, a color symbolically associated with purity, wisdom, and the lack of materialism that Buddhists aspire to. Check-in at the hotel, dinner at leisure, and overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, visit Wat Rong Khun, a unique contemporary Thai-style temple based on imaginative elements of our materialistic world. Unlike most Thai temples, the building is entirely white, with glass and mirrors incorporated on the exterior to make it shine and sparkle in the sunlight, but especially to be seen in the moonlight when it appears particularly ghostly and otherworldly. Its murals, unlike traditional temples that depict scenes from Buddhist stories, contain modern representations of good and evil, contemporary figures like Batman, Spiderman, and Elvis, villains, and superheroes from movies, comics, and even spaceships. Continue to the Mae Khachan hot spring, famous for its hot water geysers, and stop in the San Kamphaeng district for lunch at a local restaurant within a beautiful tropical garden. Arrival in Chiang Mai, “The Rose of the North”, considered the northern capital of Thailand, surrounded by spectacular mountains, with a beautiful historic center enclosed by ancient walls and its unique architecture that can be admired while strolling through the streets. Departure for the slopes of Doi Suthep, the mountain that dominates Chiang Mai with its 1,056 meters of height, and visit Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, the most sacred Theravada temple in the city. Built at the beginning of the 19th Buddhist century, the temple’s beauty is characterized by statues of seven-headed serpents flanking the stairs where there is a golden pagoda in Chiang Saen style and all its exquisite Lanna architecture. Last visit to Wat Pha Lat, the “jungle temple”, a hidden gem of Chiang Mai with a temple complex. This picturesque temple immersed in the jungle, famous for meditation, is a place composed of several buildings scattered in the forest along a quiet stream and built in perfect harmony with nature so that it is difficult to tell where the buildings end and the forest begins. Arrival at the hotel, dinner at leisure, and overnight stay.
Breakfast (packed or at the hotel) and departure (06:30/07:00) for a half-day excursion to the jungle elephant sanctuary (English-speaking guide and typical sanctuary van), which offers visitors a pleasant opportunity to spend time with elephants in their natural home, as well as learn about their history and behaviors. Visitors to the sanctuary, after donning traditional clothing, will have the opportunity to interact freely with the elephants in their natural habitat, feed them bananas and sugarcane, bathe them in the river, and apply a cosmetic mud treatment to their skin in a natural pool. Typical Thai lunch inside the sanctuary and return to the hotel. In the afternoon, depart for the ancient city, entering one of the 4 gates of the walls to discover the architectural wonders within and the magic of the characteristic local markets. Visit Wat Phra Singh, the most elegant and culturally significant temple, and walk to reach Wat Chedi Luang, considered the great monument of Chiang Mai that once housed the Emerald Buddha. Continue until exiting the walls through Thapae Gate and, aboard a local vehicle (Sangtaew or Tuk Tuk), visit the Mueang Mai wholesale fruit, vegetable, and flower market with an incredible variety of products and the Warorot market. The last stop is at the famous night bazaar, where the guided service will end and where there will be the possibility of tasting a delicious dinner (NOT INCLUDED) with the authentic flavors of Chiang Mai cuisine in one of the two most famous street food markets: Anusarn Market and Kalare Market. Return to the hotel on your own and overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer in time to Chiang Mai airport for the scheduled flight departure.
