3 Days / 2 Nights
General Description

This 3 day-2 night tour let you visit the two main cities of Northern Thailand, both lively and culturally relevant if you wish to know the Kingdom of Smiles. Start exploring the Golden Triangle, where Thailand meets Laos and Myanmar and the Mekong River runs large and fierce. By motor-launch cruise the Kok River to Ruam Mitr, inhabited by the tribes of Karen and Lahu. The following day is dedicated to temples: first the fantastic Blue Temple, then the stunning and immaculate White Temple, and finally, after reaching Chiang Mai, the city’s most famous temple, Wat Prasat Doi Suthep, whose panoramic view on the hilly scenery is phenomenal. On the third day, enjoy a free morning in Chiang Mai, then transfer to the airport according with your scheduled flight out.

Day 1

Chiang Rai and surroundings

Arrival at the airport in Chiang Rai by 10:00 am. meet the local guide. Begin to explore the province, the northernmost of Thailand, by visiting the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Myanmar, Thailand and Laos meet along the Mekong River. Until recently, Sop Ruak, where the Mekong River meets the Ruak River, was the world’s leading source of drug trafficking due to its inviable location at the confluence of thee opioid-producing countries. Today it’s a popular tourist attraction. You will visit the Wat Phra That Pu Khao, guarded by two scary Naga statues, from where you will have a fantastic view of the Golden Triangle, then proceed to the Opium Museum. This museum offers an interesting insight on the opium production and history and its cultural importance for the hill tribes that live in the area. Lunch is served at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, drive back to Chiang Rai and board a motor-launch to Ruam Mitr, a Karen village located on the Nam Mae Kok River. The village has a long tradition in elephant training for deforestation purposes and it still preserves a distinctive Karen culture and traditions. It takes about 1 hour to reach Ruam Mitr from Chiang Rai, and yet the you’ll find yourselves in another world. In the early evening, arrival at the hotel, check in and time to relax or explore the area on your own.

Overnight in Chiang Rai.

07:00 am, meet the guide in the lobby and go visiting the marvellous Wat Rong Seua Ten (best known as Blue Temple), a few kilometres out of the city. Despite being still under construction, the white Buddha statue inside a magnificent blue hall is a remarkable sight.  Before driving to Chiang Mai, stop to visit the Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) whose extremely elaborate architecture makes it standing apart from all the other temples of Chiang Mai. The hall itself is in pure white to represent the Buddha’s purity. The glittering mirror glass symbolises the wisdom of the Enlightened who shines above the earth and the universe. Lunch is served in a local restaurant along the way. Upon reaching Chiang Mai, visit the city’s most famous temple, Wat Pratat Doi Suthep, set on a mountain with a panoramic view of the hills of Chiang Mai.
