General Description

This 5 day-4night itinerary departs from Bangkok to reach two of Northern Thailand most fascinating provinces, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, offering relevant cultural insights on Siam history and architecture all along the way: we will visit the two ancient Capitals of Siam, Ayutthaya and Sukhothai, now Unesco World Heritage Sites and Phitsanulok, one of the oldest cities in Thailand and a provincial center of the Khmer Empire during the Angkorian period; then we will discover the North of Thailand, enjoying the idyllic natural scenery along the Mekong and the stunning temples and Lanna architecture of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.

Itinerary

Day 1

Bangkok departure - Ayutthaya - Phitsanulok – Sukhothai

Depart the hotel for Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand, which is about 70 km from Bangkok and which we will reach after about an hour’s drive. En route we will make a stop to visit the royal residence of Bang Pa In, inside which there are different types of European, Chinese and Thai architecture, which fused together make for an extraordinary spectacle. We will finally reach Ayutthaya and visit Wat Mahathat and Wat Phra Sri San Phet (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Walking inside the archaeological site, among the ruins of the temples, we will be able to perceive the beauty of arts and cultures 600 years old. Lunch at a typical restaurant. We will then continue to Phitsanulok, where we will visit the Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, which holds one of Thailand’s most revered Buddha images, the Phra Phutta Chinnarat, a Buddha that was first created in bronze and covered in gold only later. We will continue the journey until we reach Sukhothai. Check-in at hotel.

Day 2

Sukhothai - Chiang Rai

Breakfast at the hotel and depart for Sukhothai Archaeological Park, which was the first capital of the kingdom of Siam and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will visit the temples Wat Mahathat, Wat Sri Sawai and Wat Sra Sri. After visiting the archaeological park, we will proceed to the Wat Mahathat Chalieng, a famous pre-Angkorian site and finally visit the Wat Pra That Suthon, with Burmese architectural influences. Lunch at a typical restaurant. Then we will reach the outskirts of Chiang Rai to visit Wat Rong Khun, better known as the White Temple and famous throughout Asia. Check-in at hotel.

Day 3

Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai

Breakfast at the hotel. We begin with a visit to Wat Rong Suea Ten or Blue Temple, a modern temple with the interior decorated entirely in blue and featuring a large white seated Buddha. We will then depart to Chiang Saen where we will board a motorboat that will ply the waters of the Mekong River, allowing us to visit the Golden Triangle, the meeting point and border between Thailand, Laos and Burma. After visiting the Opium Museum we will head to Chiang Mai stopping for lunch at a typical restaurant. Continue the journey to Chiang Mai, passing through Doi Sakhet. Before reaching the hotel in Chiang Mai we will make a stop at Wat Prathat Doi Suthep to admire the picturesque atmosphere of the sunset over the city below. Arrival at the hotel, check- in.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel and depart to visit the elephant training camp. Those who wish, paying locally, can take a short elephant back ride. We will then go to visit the village of the long neck women, famous for their elongated necks with gold rings. We will then return to Chiang Mai for lunch at a typical restaurant. After lunch we will tour the city center by rickshaw with stops to visit Wat Chedi Luang, of the Royal Stupa and Wat Phra Sing, temple of the Lion Buddha. We will finally proceed to visit local handicraft factories. Return to the hotel.

Travelers can cancel the tour before the deadline of cancellation; charges will be applied according to the cancellation deadline. The date of cancellation is the date in which the written communication od cancellation is received by the company.  Charges are a percentage of the total tour price per person, including surcharges but excluding any amendment charges and any insurance payment.
