This is a seat-in-coach half-day tour departing every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, with a minimum of 2 passengers
Meet in the early afternoon at the hotel reception and depart for the historic city of Ayutthaya, founded in 1350 and the second capital of the ancient Kingdom of Siam.
It flourished from the 14th to the 18th century, during which it grew to become one of the largest and most cosmopolitan urban areas in the world, as well as a center of global diplomacy and commerce. The city, situated on an island surrounded by three rivers (the Chao Phraya, the Pasak, and the Lopburi) that connected it to the sea, was strategically positioned at the end of the Gulf of Siam and equidistant between India and China. It was chosen to ensure maximum protection from the invasions of Arab and European powers that were expanding their influence in the region just as Ayutthaya was consolidating and extending its power to fill the void left by the fall of Angkor. The city was attacked and razed by the Burmese army in 1767 and was never rebuilt. Visit its ruins, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and its main monuments, such as Wat Mahathat, one of the most important and largest in the city during its peak, but best known for the Buddha’s head trapped among the roots of a tree; Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the Royal Temple used for state ceremonies and important celebrations; Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, with its large stupa towering over the surrounding landscape; Wiharn Phra Mongkol Bophit, which houses one of the largest bronze Buddha statues in the country; and Wat Lokaya Sutharam, with its large reclining Buddha statue about 37 meters long.
Depart for Bangkok and return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
