The ruins include 425 archaeological sites both inside and outside the city walls with ancient temples, palaces, monasteries, and Buddhist statues, including Wat Mahathat, known for the Buddha’s head trapped among the roots of a tree; Wat Phra Si Sanphet, which housed the royal palace and three impressive chedis; Wat Chai Watthanaram, a majestic religious complex on the banks of the Chao Phraya River; and Wat Mongkhon Bophit, with its imposing bronze Buddha statue about 12 meters high and 9 meters wide, representing the Buddha in the seated position with the right hand touching the earth as a witness to his enlightenment. Free time to visit the numerous craft stalls and departure for Chai Nat province for lunch at a delightful local restaurant within a tropical garden, then departure towards Sukhothai, the first capital of Siam, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stop at the local Kluay Khai market, named after a delicious species of banana very popular in Thailand, with the opportunity to taste a variety of tantalizing raw and cooked snacks, including banana chips, banana sprouts, and Kluai Chap, a sweet fried banana dessert guaranteed to satisfy any sweet tooth. Arrival at the wonderful archaeological site and bicycle tour of its most significant places: the historical park, the heart of the ancient city bounded by three rows of perimeter walls, and the various temples, including the colossal Wat Mahathat, Wat Sa Sri, Wat Sri Sawai, and the famous quadrangular “Mondop”. Tour of the village aboard a local van (vehicle used for agricultural purposes) with a stop on a bamboo bridge through a vast rice field. Departure towards Phrae, one of the oldest cities in Thailand, founded in the same period as Sukhothai and Chiang Mai, part of the glorious Lanna empire. The ancient name was Wiang Kosai, which means silk cloth, and the city is also nicknamed the “best-kept secret of northern Thailand“, with immense historical, cultural, and natural wealth. Before arriving in the city, a brief photographic stop at the magnificent Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri, and after lunch at a local restaurant visit the Baan Thung Hong district, famous for the production of Mo-Hom, cotton garments colored blue worn by villagers throughout northern Thailand. After lunch at a local restaurant, we will move to Chiang Mai, “The Rose of the North”, considered the northern capital of Thailand, surrounded by spectacular mountains, with a wonderful city center and unique architecture that can be admired while walking through the streets. Visit Wat Pha Lat, the “jungle temple”, a temple complex on the slopes of Doi Suthep, the mountain that dominates Chiang Mai.
