Highlights

The summit of Doi Inthanon National Park for its spectacular early morning views, several waterfalls, paths and the two stupas (pagodas) dedicated to the king and queen of sixtieth birthday anniversaries. The park is also one of the main destinations in the country for bird lovers.
On the border with Burma, in northern Thailand, lies the idyllic town of Mae Hong Son. The city is surrounded by mountains and some of Thailand’s highest waterfalls. The cool temperatures of Mae Hong Son are one of the reasons for the mist, which appears throughout the year, most often in the early morning.

What you need to know
  • Most of the waterfalls within Doi Inthanon park have a relatively good flow of water all year round, but the best season is the rainy season, May to November. One of the park’s seasonal attractions is the flowering of Thai sakura trees that turn trees pink at the end of January and February.
  • In Mae Hong Son the climate varies from very hot in summer to zero degrees in winter: April is the hottest month, while January is the best time to visit it. Wear warmer clothing during the “winter” season, November to January.
  • Since you will be visiting temples and palaces, please dress conservatively: no shorts, sleeveless shirt of see-trough shirts and tops.
  • Wear comfort shoes easy to take off.
