Vientiane - City tour

Soon after breakfast, we start the city tour with the most ancient temple in town, Wat Sisaket, with its thousands of miniature Buddha statues, then we visit the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, that used to host the famous image of the Emerald Buddha. Later on we are going to visit one of Laos’ most precious cultural heritage: the holy That Luang Stupa, before moving to the majestic Patuxay Monument, also known as the Arch of Triumph. The next stop is at the COPE, a rehabilitation centre for the victims of landmines and bombs that were thrown over a vast Lao territory during the Vietnam war. As today, this is still one of the major problems Laos has to face.

The last stop is the Buddha Park, 30 minutes out of the city, on the bank of the river Mekong, where we will admire a unique collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures. Our day ends with a stunning sunset over the Mekong.

Overnight in Vientiane.

Optional: Vientiane, night tour and dinner in a local restaurant

We will start at 6 pm and explore the city with night lights: boarding a Tuk Tuk (a local means of transport) we will visit the night market near the That Luang; the guide will give us a tour of the market and explain about popular local dishes, ingredients and prices.

Then we will go to have dinner in a local restaurant where we will try the “”SinDat”, a typical lao BBQ quite popular among the locals.

After dinner we will head back to the hotel.
