After breakfast, departure from the hotel in Bangkok heading west until reaching the town of Nakhon Pathom to visit Phra Pathom Chedi, the largest pagoda whose dome, resembling an immense inverted bell 127 meters high, dominates the entire city. Departure for Kanchanaburi province, the third largest capital of Thailand, with almost 20,000 km2 extending to the far west, bordering Myanmar. Visit a complex of temples located on top of a hill, including Wat Tham Sua, with a Buddha image about 18 meters high and 10 meters wide, offering an exceptional panoramic view where the Mae Klong River can be seen amidst the green rice fields. Arrival in Kanchanaburi for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will depart to the Nam Tok railway station and board the ancient train to travel along some iron viaducts climbing the steep mountain side, following the “Kwai Noi” to Tham Krasae station. Continue by minivan along the “Kwai Noi” River to the pier of a charming resort on the riverbanks, surrounded by jungle and high mountains. Hotel accommodation, dinner on your own, and overnight stay.

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for the Prasat Muang Sing Historical Park, a Khmer-style temple complex covering an area of about 736,000 sqm, similar to the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Proceed to Erawan National Park, known for its famous seven-level waterfall, 1500 meters long, flowing from the Huai Mong Lai River down a 2100-meter high mountain. Free time for light trekking and the possibility of swimming in some areas beneath the levels and enjoying the forest’s beauty. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the famous “Bridge over the River Kwai“, partially destroyed at the end of the war and now restored to its original form. Arrival at the hotel, dinner on your own, and overnight stay.

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for a half-day excursion to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, offering visitors a pleasant opportunity to spend time with elephants in their natural home and learn about their history and behaviors. After feeding the elephants with bananas and sugar cane, walk through the sanctuary, where free-roaming elephants can be found. Opportunity to bathe with the elephants in a mud pool and perform a cosmetic mud treatment on their skin. Lunch at the sanctuary, then depart for Ayutthaya in the early afternoon. Founded in 1350 was the second capital of the glorious Kingdom of Siam for 417 years during the reign of 33 Kings. It is a vast island surrounded by three rivers on all sides (Chao Phraya, Pasak, and Lopburi) and a canal that holds the ruins of an ancient city. It was one of the most strategic commercial and diplomatic locations in Southeast Asia and one of the most cosmopolitan. Although the city was sacked and burned by Burmese invaders in the 18th century, its ruins remain a reminder of the past glory of what was the most beautiful in the East. After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Ayutthaya Historical Park, an impressive testimony to Thailand’s rich history and past grandeur, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. The ruins include 425 archaeological sites inside and outside the city walls, with ancient temples, palaces, monasteries, and Buddha statues, including Wat Mahathat, known for the Buddha’s head trapped among the tree roots; Wat Phra Si Sanphet, which housed the royal palace and three impressive chedis; Wat Chai Watthanaram, a majestic religious complex on the banks of the Chao Phraya River; and Wat Mongkhon Bophit, with its imposing bronze Buddha statue about 12 meters high and 9 meters wide, representing the Buddha in the sitting position with the right hand touching the earth as a witness of his enlightenment. Free time to visit numerous craft stalls, then depart for Chai Nat province for lunch at a delightful local restaurant in a tropical garden, and then head to Sukhothai, the first Capital of Siam, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stop at the local market of Kluay Khai, named after a delicious species of banana very popular in Thailand, and have the opportunity to taste a variety of raw and cooked snacks, including banana chips, banana sprouts, and Kluai Chap, a sweetened fried banana dessert guaranteed to satisfy every sweet tooth. Arrival at the magnificent archaeological site and visit its most significant places by bicycle: the historical park, the heart of the ancient city bordered by three rows of perimeter walls, and various temples, including the colossal Wat Mahathat, Wat Sa Sri, Wat Sri Sawai, and the famous quadrangular “Mondop.” Arrival at the hotel, dinner on your own, and overnight stay.

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Si Satchanalai to visit the characteristic rural village Ban Na Ton Chan, surrounded by Chan trees and famous for the process of dyeing fabric fermented in mud and ancient weaving techniques. Tourist tour of the village by a local truck (vehicle used for agricultural purposes) with a stop on a bamboo bridge through an enormous rice field. Depart for Phrae, one of Thailand’s oldest cities, founded during the same period as Sukhothai and Chiang Mai, part of the glorious Lanna Kingdom. The ancient name was Wiang Kosai, which means silk cloth, and the city is also nicknamed the “Best-kept secret of northern Thailand“, with immense historical, cultural, and natural wealth. Before arriving in the city, a brief photo stop at the magnificent Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri, and after lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Baan Thung Hong district, famous for producing Mo-Hom, blue-dyed cotton garments worn by villagers throughout northern Thailand. Proceed to Phayao province and stop at the first of the “unusual” temples in Chiang Rai province: Wat Huay Sai Kao, a functioning religious site created with the general concept of “Buddhism can be fun” that wouldn’t look out of place at Disneyland. Arrival in Chiang Rai and before going to the hotel, visit Wat Rong Seua Ten, better known as the “Blue Temple” or “Dancing Tiger Temple“, whose walls, roof, and surrounding statues are all covered in this splendid shade of sapphire blue, a color symbolically associated with purity, wisdom, and the lack of materialism aspired to by Buddhists. After breakfast at the hotel, depart for the “Golden Triangle“, the famous place where Thailand meets Laos and Myanmar on the legendary Mekong River, the longest in Southeast Asia, with its 4350 Km. Stop at the panoramic meeting point of the rivers, known as Phrathat Doi Pu Khao, and visit the Opium Museum, which features a series of testimonies and objects related to the cultivation, trade, and consumption of this substance. Return to Chiang Rai and stop at Wat Rong Khun, better known as the “White Temple“, one of the most famous temples in Thailand. The white color indicates the Buddha’s purity, while the glass symbolizes the wisdom and Buddhist teachings of Dhamma. After lunch at a local restaurant, depart for Chiang Mai, “The Rose of the North“, considered the northern capital of Thailand, surrounded by spectacular mountains, with a wonderful city center and unique architecture that can be admired while walking through the streets. Visit Wat Pha Lat, the “jungle temple,” a temple complex on the slopes of Doi Suthep, the mountain dominating Chiang Mai. This picturesque temple nestled in the jungle is a place composed of several buildings scattered in the forest along a tranquil stream and built in perfect harmony with nature so that it is difficult to say where the buildings end, and the forest begins. Final visit to Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, the most sacred Theravada temple in the city, in a panoramic position on the top of the mountain of the same name with its 1,056 meters in height. Built at the beginning of the 19th Buddhist century, the beauty of Doi Suthep is characterized by seven-headed serpent statues flanking the stairs where there is a golden pagoda in Chiang Saen style and all its exquisite Lanna architecture.
