A day in Luang Prabang: what to see and do

Visit the Royal Palace Museum to immerse yourself in the daily life of the last royal families who ruled Laos before Phatet Lao seized power.
Then, visit the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, whose particular roof is an example of classical Laotian architecture, followed by the beautiful Wat Mai and the astonishing Wat Visoun.
In the afternoon, board a river boat for a ride on the Mekong River towards the Caves of Pak Ou: these two inter-connecting caves guard thousands of gold Buddha statuettes of various shapes and sizes, left here by thousands of faithful pilgrims.
On the way back you can stop at the village of Ban Muangkeo, famous for its tessil works and rice whisky production.
